Bangles’ Industry in a Third World Country

Bangles’ Industry in a Third World Country
By Mehru Fatima
Bangles that add charm and beauty to girls are not made effortlessly. I came to know that when I stepped into a small dark room with no fan. A gas cylinder and an iron plate were placed in a side on which bangles’ ends are joined. Windows and doors of the room remain locked when bangles are being made. This was the room where bangles are made as one of the bangle industry woman worker told.

Hyderabad, Pakistan’s bangle industry enjoys position of a major domestic crystal bangle industry of South Asia. In Hyderabad, bangles work is carried on its areas Latifabad Unit 8, Unit 10, Unit 11, Unit 12, Paretabad, Hali Road, American Quarter, Cloth Market, Noorani Basti, Liaquat Colony, Faqeer jo Pir, Goods Naaka, Afandi Town and some other areas. Another major center of crystal bangle industry is Firozabad, India. Firozabad is known as ‘City of Bangles’.

Hard Working Men Women and Child Labors
A large number of men, women and child labors are committed with bangles work in Hyderabad, Pakistan and Firozabad, India who works day and night to upkeep their families. They live hand-to-mouth because of dealers. These hard worker labors are doomed by factory owners, retailers and dealers who keep workers’ salary themselves and they’re compelled to work on truncated salary. Bangle industry workers are generally oppressed. On the other hand, these workers are deprived of medical facilities and incentives which are one of their basic rights..
here are many crystal bangle factories in Hyderabad where an assortment of bangles are made and then, are carried to workers’ home through dealers for advance work that is cut, design and color.

Preparation of Bangles
Bangles are prepared after concluding almost 28 different phases in which role of home-based women workers are imperative, who work insecurely with no assurance to earn a living. These bangles are, then, joint on flames of kerosene oil and gas. The effects of these were dreadful to know in a survey that showed noxious smoke rising from these substances as carbon dioxide and carbon mono oxide harms every individual in house and many diseases take place. This affects women and children, in particular to those who are considerate susceptible to skin diseases, respiration problems, asthma, disturbance of the digestive system, eyesight weakness, cataract and such other diseases. Constant sitting results in back, joints pain for unmarried girls and sensitive youngsters. Many women suffer from tuberculosis, but still they keep working to feed their children.
The young home-based workers are not professionally trained, but inherit the working abilities from their parents. They are not aware of any other skill or education, but they are proud of supporting male members of their family and adding to their income, little though.
This typically eastern tradition of the bangles has influenced many countries in the world. People love the colors, beauty and a different form of bangles in different styles. Now, these bangles are also exported to many of the western countries known as bracelet, hand band etc. in their local languages. Asia’s significance has been increased because of one more addition to its industries.
