Let's make some difference by Maham Jabeen

Let's make some difference

"Pakistan is proud of her youth, particularly the students, who are nation builders of tomorrow" – Quaid-e-Azam.

Just after eid the days were hectic, lots of work and very new tasks.  I enrolled my name in promotional and marketing department of the group.  In Ramzan I received my cousin's message and urge me to take part as team member in the group who are going to organize their first program in Hyderabad based on career counseling, motivational workshop and etc. The group called Aims..! A group of 15 to 16 young people including me are the part of this grand team. I attended many social programs but this one is going to be more special as I am going to explore ways which appears different to me.

We started working on it and September 14th of was the day of our first laurel where we had a crowd of more than 300 students and discover the youth power. 300 not a big figure but for a group of 16 young people like us this records matter.  It may not interest you but my team and I came across during our journey that nothing is difficult just required efforts.

Later, I think over it again and again "Why people admire young age? Why Shakespeare wrote seven ages of man and highlighted Soldier and justice age in his poem?? " .

The main question was can I make some difference in society?  And there must be other young people out there who have courage, skills and talent like Mala Yousuf Zai, Ali Moin Nawazish and Arfaa Karim.

Why not we gather such youth on a single platform so they can act in more effective way and we can come over our economic and other deadly crisis. Platforms like Youth Parliament, School of Leadership and others. Or we must encourage the youth groups in society those who are working and trying to play their age role wisely.
Revivalisms of Youth Organizations are appreciable at this stage when our youth facing challenges like unemployment, less opportunities and lawlessness in the country. But the uses of such organizations are vital at this phase; we must work with progressive approach not for individual but in favor of whole society.

Pakistan is the luckiest among other countries as estimated 103 million Pakistanis, or 63% of the population, fall under the age of 25 years.  More than half of our nation population comprises youth.

Consequently our forefathers bringing glory and pride to our nation and also bringing laurels home to be proud of like Pakistan we only admire them but never laid efforts to mark same glory.

Let's be a part of political movements to show our desires and expectations for our country.
You can break the nepotism and corrupt cultures yes you! Asked Question do investigation and make some difference.

Why great leader always focuses on the youth importance? Is it about the adolescent age?  But the most exciting stage I believe is the time of being young not by age but by actions, enthusiasm and adventurous nature.

We have no time to wait for Messiah to come and do charisma for us don't complain but take actions and do it yourself.
There is light at the end of the tunnel but only if we have the will and courage to pass through.

The government and Youth Ministry must pay special attention in addressing the issues affecting Pakistani Youth at first priority to allow us to meet our potential and perform for the country in a more suitable way.

A: Basically, I wanted to become pilot and fly in the sky but unfortunately couldn't pass my physical test, that time I was eager to ride bikes and I usually ride my brother's bike, and traffic police charged me many times. Q. Any message for students of Mass Communication?
A: It is an important department because it creates will and power to raise the voice through media and compels government to respond to people’s problems. In fact Sindh needs reliable and brave journalists.

Strikes upshot on lives

Article
Strikes upsets life
 By Musfira Amean
Strike calls by different political parties and groups have become order of the day at least in the Sindh province. Strike calls have become more frequent as during last few months there were 36 strike calls.
These strike call adversely affect our education, business and routine life in the cities. As  trade activities remain closed due to complete shutter down and closure, this reflect into decline of tax revenue and trade. This accounted in billions. Karachi suffers a loss of approximately Rs 3.15 billion that is not good for a city as well as a country. Karachi is the major revenue generating source for the government.
Due to the wheel- jam strike, most educational institutions remain closed because transport is not on roads and the students couldn't reach their college, school and university. In this situation administration is compelled to announce holiday, whether the next day is exam or not. The scheduled examinations are also postponed. Frequent strike calls distract the students from studies.
Strike has negative social and corporate effects. Thousands of daily-wage earners are directly affected, for whom even a day without work means a hunger. Factory workers, shopkeepers and labours they all work on daily wages and they are exceedingly upshot. Non availability of public transport in the morning does not allow the government employees to go their offices, shopkeepers and labours to resume their business. Sometime some groups threaten the business men that their shops and business would be attacked if they found these shops opened during the strike.
Strikes make life difficult for everyone. Ask a mother whose child cries for milk but she can not get it due to strike, ask a sick person who can not get medical aid due to strike, and ask a student who can't reach school/college due to unavailability of transport. Ask a poor person who can not get food for his children because he earns on daily wedges.
Our politicians should sincerely think over it and do look for a way in which a poor man may not be disturbed and bring a peaceful and livable environment in the country

HIRABAD: glimpses of history

HIRABAD: sketches of history
By Habiba Amin
Hyderabad is the second biggest city of Sindh, was founded by Kalhora rulers. Today though its is not capital of the province but culturally and educationally is equally important. Known as city of breeze, has many historical places which tell the history.
Hirabad was a posh area of pre partition days. Name of Hirabad was derived from a man namely "Hira Lal".  This posh area of past consists three main roads, now named as Jail Road, Bhurgari Road, and Prince Ali Road.
The Jail road has a very old tree "Peepal ka Darkht", which is  gained popularity to identify the locations and stop for local transport and helps wayfarers to locate the place. Bhurgari Road has historical place of Talpur’s Tombs called as "Mir Ja Quba".
Today Hirabad has been much commercialised but still demanding area of the city mostly by businessmen to settle a better business there. Old Hirabad had very traditional houses with unique wooden work on stairs, windows, galleries and doors. These houses have colourful and unique tiles with work of stone carvings.
Houses at Hirabad have much similarity in construction. They have unique "Roshandan" which give look of antiquity and show how the dwellers used the technique for enjoying the windy city. Many houses had servants quarters which are now used as car porches.
The architecture of the houses is being ruined because of ignoring the historical perspective due to new construction and the builders are trying to construct apartments.  Many people desire to reside in the area which prompted  builders to construct flats so plazas are being  constructed in the area.
After inception of Pakistan Hirabad was turned into commercial area. Doctors lane was here, which was later shifted to Sadder. However many medical stores are still there. Now identity of Hirabad has been changed.
Hirabad have got very excellent sewerage system. We never saw a stuck water on roads and lanes.
It is responsibility of government as well as dwellers to preserve the historical places and try to know the importance of the places. Hirabad no doubt possess historical traces which reflect the prosperous look of past.

Working with Roshni: Best Time of University Life!

Working with Roshni:  Best Time  of  University Life!
Hiba Mumtaz
And the day came, when I entered in 3rd year. I was very excited about the newspaper's work, because it always attracted me to see seniors working in the labs. So i wanted to go in Roshni team and interestingly i was selected as an editor for initial issues of newspaper. We had not reporters for first issue, so we all editors went on reporting which was a great experience for all of us because we did two tasks at the same time. I learned many things throughout the year like proof reading, composing of Urdu, how to make headlines, team work, sense of responsibility and time management.
I think you all must be thinking that we editors just do work, work and work. No it is not so.. we also do fun together and enjoy with the whole team of Roshni. Even it is the best part of university life to work with in the Roshni team. Roshni helped me in making good P.R and i got many opportunities of attending interesting workshops. The work which i learned from here also helped me in my internship.
Sometimes we listen harsh words from Sir Sangi and Chairperson but many times they give us appreciation which motivate us to do work hard and better than last time. I remember, when our first issue was published there was a treat from Sir Sangi for all editors.
I know this time will not come again in my life but i am satisfied that i have given my best. I wish good luck to the next Editorial board and 3rd year. Please take good care of our newspaper and labs!!

By Sehrish Syed
