Strikes upshot on lives

Article
Strikes upsets life
 By Musfira Amean
Strike calls by different political parties and groups have become order of the day at least in the Sindh province. Strike calls have become more frequent as during last few months there were 36 strike calls.
These strike call adversely affect our education, business and routine life in the cities. As  trade activities remain closed due to complete shutter down and closure, this reflect into decline of tax revenue and trade. This accounted in billions. Karachi suffers a loss of approximately Rs 3.15 billion that is not good for a city as well as a country. Karachi is the major revenue generating source for the government.
Due to the wheel- jam strike, most educational institutions remain closed because transport is not on roads and the students couldn't reach their college, school and university. In this situation administration is compelled to announce holiday, whether the next day is exam or not. The scheduled examinations are also postponed. Frequent strike calls distract the students from studies.
Strike has negative social and corporate effects. Thousands of daily-wage earners are directly affected, for whom even a day without work means a hunger. Factory workers, shopkeepers and labours they all work on daily wages and they are exceedingly upshot. Non availability of public transport in the morning does not allow the government employees to go their offices, shopkeepers and labours to resume their business. Sometime some groups threaten the business men that their shops and business would be attacked if they found these shops opened during the strike.
Strikes make life difficult for everyone. Ask a mother whose child cries for milk but she can not get it due to strike, ask a sick person who can not get medical aid due to strike, and ask a student who can't reach school/college due to unavailability of transport. Ask a poor person who can not get food for his children because he earns on daily wedges.
Our politicians should sincerely think over it and do look for a way in which a poor man may not be disturbed and bring a peaceful and livable environment in the country.

Entertainment has dominated Information

Article

By Mehwish Rehman

The world has changed into a global village. Today lots of tools regarding information are like television, newspaper and internet are available. Our generations are much more attracted by these tools and they maintain a mind level of audience.

These informative tools and technologies do facilitate our generation in education. The internet however has become source to build, interact, communicate and disseminate information to masses.

Websites are the latest tool of information and are more successful in approach. They establish online relationship between the students and their studies. Provide an in depth information and interaction.

On the contrary, our new generation responds in a variety of behaviors. Today, our youth regularly watch television and use internet but mostly they use these sources for entertainment not for knowledge. They chat with their friends, talk on cell phones.

It is a true fact that humans need entertainment for relaxation of their mind but just for limited time. Different tools of information available for youngster. They should use these facilities positively and take advantage of them. Only five to ten percent youth use internet as a tool for gathering information and knowledge while majority move towards entertainment.

It can be argued that entertainment has existed since years in the form of parables and fables which promoted social change in our society.

Entertainment decreases ability and knowledge of teenagers and it also impacts on different cultures of communities. Everyone accept their customs and traditions due to which social changes occur in societies which prevail wrong effects.

When we are adolescent, we get to use these informative sources in the school libraries, encyclopedia and parents. All these sources are trusted.

When we grow up, these sources are available in state library, newspaper, television, bookstores and current magazines, but now days; these sources are used negatively by youngsters.

In olden times, there used to be less sources of information so it was much easier to verify the data collected from a specific source, where as now, number of sources and information available on them is so huge that it feels like measuring a giant mountain to verify a small sentence.

Though information has reached at our finger tips but the capacity of people to absorb and acquire that information is not that much which it should have been with the pace of time.

Youth should change its preferences because its need of time to realize that knowledge and information is the thing that can make something while entertainment is not the primary factor.

The habit of book reading should be inculcated among our new generation so that the dominance of entertainment section could be overcome.

No nation can progress with its entertainment or field of amusement. Only exploration of knowledge can make the difference.

Tree chopping -

Article
By Tanveer ul Haq

Unemployment in Pakistan

Article: By Khuda-i-Dost

“A person is unemployed if he or she does not work during the preceding week but made some efforts to find work for the past four weeks”. A person is unemployed who has ability to do work and is willing to do work but is unable to get a job opportunity.

Unemployment is one of the major problems of Pakistan. The level of unemployment is rising. Presently, more than three million people are unemployed in Pakistan and unemployment ratio is more than 12%. The socio economic system of the country and institutions has failed to provide employment to the increasing labor force. The rate of expansion in industrial sector is very slow. The increasing labor force has not been absorbed.

Technical, professional and vocational institutions are limited in number. Nationalization of industrial units very badly affected the investment at industrial sector. The private investors shifted their capital to other countries. Downsizing in many government offices and within the private sector has aggravated the problem.

In addition, past government policies have also increased unemployment rate in the shape of Golden Shake Hand, ban on jobs increased unemployment rate. The higher growth rate of population is also the major cause of unemployment.

Unemployment is a central problem of Pakistan because when unemployment is at its peak, resources are wasted and earnings are depressed. During such period, economic distress also spills over to affect emotions and family lives.

The major causes for unemployment among the poor in Pakistan include lack of technical skills, little or no education, low income worsened by indebtedness to moneylenders, no career guidance, lack of awareness regarding available jobs, high expectations without commensurate experience, little understanding of work ethics and the weak economy.

Low income can be improved by small enterprise development (SED) activities, industrial and technical skills, increased financial resources and management skills and increased participation of women in economic activities providing more income for the family as compared to a single breadwinner.

Political instability is one with the successive governments failing to come up with any substantial plan to tackle growing unemployment. People have lost their hopes and find ill ways to satisfy their utmost needs. It is anticipated that if no concrete actions are taken against these problems in the coming years, the crime rate will become three times higher than the present. People will become poorer and will lose hope and trust in Government.

Government should make efforts to push economic growth process and should seriously try to boost exports through broadening the tax base and lowering tariffs. Package should be announced for the development of agriculture sector. A number of fiscal and monetary measures should be taken to attract industrialists and particularly foreign investment. More technical and vocational training facilities should be provided. In this way unemployed people will get the chance to enhance their skills and become able to earn reasonable income.

Water shortage, devastation of Thatta

Article: By Rizwan Ali Brohi

Thatta is the tail-end area of Sindh and ongoing water issue has made residents restless. Millions of people from urban and rural communities are in sake of compassion for single drop of water. The acute shortage of water in Sindh, mainly in Thatta has made people to suffer and the city has lost its beauty due to drastic effects caused by water shortage.

Since last few decades, Sindh is not receiving its due share of water as per signed water accords and treaties, so, historic cities like Thatta have become victim of such unjustified atrocity.

No release of water to Kotri downstream through canals of Thatta has badly affected the irrigational conditions of the area.

Some Talukas of Thatta like Sujawal, Daro, Jati and Kohistani areas of Makli are acute victims and there seems no hope for the remedy of these areas.

The Kalri Canal and Keenjhar Lake are main sources of water for Thatta and Makli Taulkas while Daro canal provides water to Sujawal, Jati and Daro Taulkas by 62 branches. Even condition of these water canals is getting worst by every passing day and water has turned brackish which is harmful for human life.

The consecutive shortage of water in Thatta has become a serious issue. Almost 12.50 million people are victim of this issue and residents of urban area are compelled to purchase drinking water at 25 to 30 Rupees per gallon.

On other hand, the rural communities are left with unhygienic water of wells, canals and hand pumps which is not safe for health. In villages, women and children walk miles to fetch water.

Like gas, power and floor crises of in our country, issue of water is also related with the increase of price.

Many people in the areas of Jati, Makli, Daro and especially in rural communities are suffering from diseases like diarrhea, malaria, typhoid, paratyphoid, enteric fevers and hepatitis. These diseases besides adding to the miseries of residents are also increasing the death ratio in the area.

Earlier, it was merely a water issue but now it is also associated with health problem.

The ruling class has deprived the people of Thatta from basic amenities of life. By each rising sun, Thatta is becoming most backward city of Pakistan. If situation persists then Thatta would undoubtedly be doomed into darkness and stone age.

It is appealed to the higher authorities and administration to save Thatta which is one of the glorious pieces of past. Government should take serious steps to provide relief to the people. The majesty of Thatta could be recovered if proper water management is ensured throughout the country.
