Miraculous Mosque

Feature
By Rahim Dad Khushk

Halani is a historic city along National Highway of Taluka Meherabpur, District Naushahro Feroze, Sindh. This city has famous Hindu temple and historic Mehrab Masjid (Mosque) of 18th century. The city was scene of historic battle between Kalhoras and Talpurs.

A delimitated Battle Graveyard could still be seen with gallows standing (Phansi ghaat). Besides Halani, there is Kandiaro and Meherabpur. As Halani is very historical city, it is given importance as old heritage of Sindh and Mehrab mosque is also on the historical assets.

Mehrab mosque was built by the Sardar Mehrab Khan Jatoi, so it is named after him.

He ordered the labor to build such mosque that has a secret chamber in it. The labor was very creative and skilled so they designed mosque with unbelievable hidden truth.

He ordered to construct two holes, one from right side and one from left side at the Mehrab where Imam stands for prayers.

These holes were indifferent from each other. The secret of those holes was to show the actual date in month of Ramadan. If there was moon of 29 days, it could be seen from hole at right side and if there was moon of 30 days then it could clearly bee seen from the hole at the left side.

So date of Eid ul Fitar could be calculated accurately with the help of these holes.

Mehrab mosque is hundred years old but the out look and appearance is very much recent. The painted work on doors and bricks gives a beautiful view but it is diminishing day by day.

More than fifty people can offer prayer at the mosque. Besides Mehrab mosque, there is a big temple, it looks very old but Mehrab mosque still looks new.

Unfortunately, Mehrab mosque is turning into dust due to negligence by the respective authorities and lack of maintenance.

Hindus come from different areas of world, where as for mosque, no one cares about this heritage.

The locals found a little gold from the clay of prison constructed there, so they thought that there might be more wealth hidden around the holes of Mehrab mosque and they dug it out in curiosity, but found nothing.

To save the Mehrab mosque, we all have to take a stern step to protect and save the heritage of Sindh.

Expression Unlimited - By Samar Ahsan

In the age of globalization the world has become a smaller place. The social networking websites are gaining lot of popularity these days and are here to stay among the educated people using one or the other such sites.

Communication has become more effective and easier than ever with the help of such portals. These have played a crucial role in bridging boundaries, crossing the oceans and enabling people around the world to communicate on a common platform.

I am trying to find out the impact of these networking sites on the personal and professional lives of people who use them. It is a very subjective question to answer and is very opinion based. Research has shown that social networks operate on many levels, from families up to the level of nations and play a critical role in determining the way problems could be solved.

The amount of personal information shared on Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, Orkut message boards or whatever the social networking flavor of the mouth are some what mind blowing.

It's obvious that the information we share on these sites is kept there for a reason. It's as if we are reaching out to the world, trying to quench that ever present thirst for attention and sense of importance.

These forums can easily be termed as “Virtual Walls” which are interactive platforms for sharing, views and opinion building. The issues discussed on these “Virtual Walls” are mostly argumentative. One important aspect of these websites is discussion forums, blogs and message boards. People are found imposing their views on others as think they are the only intellectuals left on the earth with idiots. I used to participate in discussion forums but there were some people who had difficulty in accepting opinions.

Some were too stubborn, narrow minded and short tempered to actually understand what the facts and common sense might have stated.

These walls are read, written and erased just like graffiti or wall chalking around the world. No one is banned, pushed or accused of whatever they like to post here. People can get away with anything, from aiming brutally at other religions, countries, individuals and culture. Offenders may get punished or may be banned for online forums, but it happens rarely.

In short, people who like themselves tend to show more to the world about themselves. They will try to prove their righteousness and other's wrongfulness strongly, till one surrenders. Attitudes like these are quite common among people.

There is nothing which is not being discussed in these forums. One can find topics from religion to culture, from education to knowledge, politics to terrorism and from homes to ramps.

Nothing is filtered unless the forum's owner or moderator takes responsibility to keep things in control.

Immature brains are prone to such materials which can indulge them in non ethical practices, extremism and uncertainty.

Many topics discussed in forums refer various social behaviors. A forum portrays the ideas, direction and beliefs of majority and even minority of members. One can easily analyze the trends followed and make a hypothetical report about what is psychology of these bloggers.

If you search these groups with phrase “Pakistan”, you will see millions of results. Some may be talking about current events of our country while others would be working to damage somewhat remaining positive reputation. It is quite astonishing that a fine estimation of people eager to settle abroad can be drawn, expressing the hatred and disappointments among commoners.

These forums are providing an outlet for expressing whatever one wishes and hence give a feeling of being heard. Millions of people access them every day and if these forums are managed properly, they can be used as strongest tool to get a positive message across the borders. There is strong need to provide a positive direction, awareness and motivation for a change world demands.

Let Us Choose

Let us choose

By Farah Naz

What is this Ali? How many times will you get bad marks in your exams? You know your father has spent a lot on your admission in medical college. He will be very angry to see your reluctant performance.

Ali who was sitting quite and disappointed by his result told his mother that he was not interested in the filed of medicines. He wanted to take admission in arts but his father forced him that is why he had to take admission, but still, He is not able to digest that field. His class performance is also dull and he is not sure, whether he can continue it or not.

Such issue is very common in student life of our youth and every second student is victim of same problem.

It is assumed that some financial problem could be the reason for a student which compels him towards that walk of life where he does not feel fit. We know that future of any country depends on its youth. If her youth are mentally and physically sound, the future of country would be bright.

Now a days, youth is under great stress and unable to choose the field of studies according to their aptitude. Right of parents to decide the career of their child sometimes disturbs his mind. Choosing a career is a process that is based on a number of factors including interests, skills, work related values and personality. Where as, now a days, parents pressurize their children to go in the field of medicine, judiciary etc.

As a matter of fact, pressure of parents is mostly observed when children pass their matriculation examination. Parents who belong to medical field always want their children to take pre-medical subjects in intermediate classes.

This practice is very wrong. Students must be given a chance to recognize their aptitudes and select the field of career they feel eligible enough to join. Merely to fulfill one's own dream, parents should not take fast and hard decision to choose the subject of study for their children.

Different people enjoy different things and the job should be something which we love to do. If not, then we are definitely in the wrong field.

Parents should not be choosing their child's career because something they like could be something the child absolutely hates. I firmly stand by the belief that no one has the right to tell you how to live your life, and if we to stick to that, then everyone should be able to choose their life path.

Parents should suggest their opinion but final decision should be left with the children. Forcible decisions of parents can lead a child towards failures in future.

Smart parents are aware of the interests and inclinations of their children. The best thing they can do is simply enhance these interests by making suggestions and giving guidance. If the children are determined to pursue their own interest, parents have no choice but to give in to avoid blame later on.

In this computer age, the youth is probably more informed than their parents, so they should always be ready to discuss with them.

The main factors to consider in deciding a child's course in college are his academic achievements and functional performance, his preferred course, future employment opportunities and the financial capability of parents to support the child through college.

Some factors are in the domain of the child, others are in the domain of the parents. It is therefore imperative that both parents and child talk it out. It should be a consensus. But last decision should be that which child wants or required for him then he/she can better explore themselves.
